The Story of the Dream Catcher

Sit with me my children, stay with me a spell
so I may share my ancient story, let me speak it well.
I have hidden knowledge to share with you indeed
so ride along to my world upon my pure white steed.

In the tent of communal life, round fire burning bright
come forth visions in the smoke, late within the night.
So listen with your inner ear, and see it with your soul
as our spirits travel back, long before earth was old.

The universe came into being, created by just one song
sung by Grandmother Spider, way before words came along.
Her duty was to watch over all, including the human forms
as she watched, she was saddened, seeing our inner storms.

The human children suffered of tiring endless bad dreams;
so one day Grandmother Spider had within her a scheme.
Grandmother Spider went first to the Willow’s tree
asked “may you suffer one Willow branch, give it just to me?”

Then she traveled with friend Wind, and visited Eagle’s nest,
asked Eagle for a feather “for indeed, you have the best.”
Soon she had taken the lovely Willow, bending it around
she connected you and me, in circle’s life we’re bound.

Then she took her wisdom, and spun her web into life
all of this in her ageless quest to rid us of our strife.
For the web of wisdom is there to catch all evil dreams
within Willow’s branch they’re held, smaller than they seem.

Then by Grandfather Sun’s morning rays the evil burns away
held within the Willow’s branch, as no evil should ever stay.
The Eagle’s feather hanging below Willow’s branch connection
allows good dreams to center pass, as was Grandmother’s intention.

Should you take this ancient lore, handed now from me to you,
then you must know thing more, before come morning’s dew.
Allow good dreams to come to you, for come to you they will,
and if you have the Dream Catcher’s web, they will be fulfilled.

Beautifully told, Sunshine! I have a Dream Catcher that my daughter got for me when she visited New Mexico! It is lovely to look at.
Again, Sunshine, beautiful!

O'siyo .. my friend ...
This Cherokee knows well the Dream Catcher legend. You have woven it well.
Inspires another tale worth weaving ...

Isis, thank you for reading. My husband pointed out the detailed story to me, and said "here, make a poem out of it." However, I think I disappointed him with this piece, he expected something different. But, Marge said I did pretty well, and she's the expert.
