Sit back while I spin a tale of lore, of lies, betrayal, and love. You need to know what has gone before, the plot you know nothing of. In the days of old before mankind, the Darkling race walked the Land. It was upon power that they dined, mountains rose at their command. In their arrogance and willful pride, they thought to master nature. Right from wrong they just wouldn't decide, of their knowledge they were sure. Dragon was their finest creation, of him they were the proudest. They tossed aside each aberration, dissecting them with interest. To Dragon they gave rule of them all, and rule them quite well he did. Even mankind Dragon held in thrall, they did just as they were bid. Dragon grew wise and relaxed his grip, a cruel tyrant he was not. Through his talons, they began to slip, some believe he was a despot. A thousand score years had passed since then, the years had begun to blur. Dragon's respect for man would deepen, as man's rage began to stir. They began to ask why He should rule, Him being just a lizard. They wanted to forge a mighty tool, so they searched for a wizard. By accident they found what they sought, a master of Darkling might. He said what they wanted could be wrought, it would be a true delight. Man was willing to pay any price, so that he could rule his own. Blinding greed was man's only true vice, it gave him a heart of stone. The price the wizard had demanded, was almost too much to ask. Because of the might he commanded, they rushed themselves to the task. One thing he required was the crown, to better meet his desires. His next demand they met with a frown, women to service his fires. They met each night to do as he planned, searching for things he needed. A girl's fate would be tied to the Land, then wed to him, they ceded. With dark ritual and magic spell, the Land was bound to the maid. What came with it, only time would tell, their plans were now fully laid. The wizard started his sorceries, to summon a mighty foe. He sought deep into The Mysteries, seeking to bring Dragon low. In a cavern deep under the ground, he chose the summoning site. To here he brought the maid he had bound, as witness to this evil rite. Two days and nights, he went without sleep, for he sought the monstrous Beast. Slaves that knew him had begun to creep, the living ones had at least. He consulted books of Darkling lore, bedazzled by what they said. Carving symbols on the cavern floor, filled him with unknowing dread. In their haste to culminate their plan, they had forgot Dragon's might. He knew about the plan hatched by Man, ignoring it all from spite. Sending his spies to kidnap the maid, he thought that would stop the deed. Though his spies were nearly delayed, he sent them on with all speed. How they freed her is another tale, best saved for a different day. They sped her away to Dragon's vale, the poor girl filled with dismay. How they fell in love, no one knows, Dragon would not speak of it. When he heard her tale Dragon arose, his eyes narrowed to a slit. Back in the cave the wizard learned fear, he felt Dragon on his way. To get at him the price would be dear, he'd surely make Dragon pay. He hurried through the summoning song, cutting corners as he went. Not stopping as he felt it go wrong, the spell just wouldn't relent. Dragon felt the twisted Darkling might, as it swarmed about the Land. With a mighty heave he took to flight, as waves crashed against the sand. The wizard called his most trusted slave, a very cowardly soul. He swore he would never knog the grave, as he told the knight xis goal. With a silent crack the cave floor split, pouring out a cold, black slime. The wizard knew he had ruined it, he wouldn't get out in time. Outside the sky had started to churn, winds twisting into a storm. The clouds themselves seemed ready to burn, with the magic that did swarm. This then my friends, is the plot you know, just as I told it to you. The lesson that you reap what you sow, will not end with just part two. ©1999 DreamEvil ------------------ Shall I indulge in flights of fancy hampered by clipped wings? DreamEvil© |
