A great and ever present reason
in the still gives me strength
to be trusting.
In the color of love
I see the bright and rounding moon
and in goodness I see beginnings.

I have capsized again and again
in oceans that took my breathe.
I found myself
in white capped splendor
negotiating with my insanity
a personal flotation device
meant for drowning souls.

It took me
past the catch in my throat
pulsing with a heart song,
down into a safely place
that enfolds my lonely wretchedness
twists it like French ribbon
ripples it to clarity
and brings it back
like fabric tossed with bounce
sweet smelling and new.

Listen, in the story is survival
faltered and failed,
bleeding in times listing wooden boat,
lost, but loud and lovely with survival.
The reaching found the poetry
still fresh and lithe
and new in its amazement.
