The Leaf’s Dance

Only by happenstance through the window I looked out,
it was my good fortune that fall leaves were flying about;
and as if He were watching, simply waiting for me,
He then gave me quite a wonderful show to see.

It was just one leaf, but it was my very own golden acrobat
giving me quite a performance, more agile than my cat;
so I watched where the leaf might chance to go;
indeed, I was enjoying its tremendous golden show.

It came from somewhere on high, perhaps from my very own tree,
it shook itself loose, then began a tumble for want of gravity;
a flip, a swirl, a merry minuet it then performed on wind’s wings,
as I listened ever closer, even the other leaves did then sing.

Another flip, another swirl, all enhancing its color golden,
when it turned, lifted upward again, having come emboldened
to continue this dance, the Dance of the Leaf, softly it did sway,
before the music left its soul, before to the ground it lay.

A piece of God’s art, in dancing norm,
for a Dance on Wind, it did perform.

Bravo to the leaf for a fine performance and to you, Sunshine, for a beautiful poem!

Thanks everyone for coming in to read. Sorry I was late getting back to you - I was gone helping my daughter welcome her second son into the world!
