I Only Knew His Name (a school assignment)

Over the weekend, a guy I knew as an accquaintance commited suicide. My english teacher wanted us to create a poem about it, using the line "I only knew his name"..this is what I came up with.

I only knew his name,
A whisper within our skies.
Upon angel's wings he came,
And now amongst them he flies.

A quietly lost soul was he,
Not knowing where to turn.
Blinded by pain in teary seas,
For a saving hand he yearned.

Despair's midnight cloak now falls,
A shroud of softly calming black.
We wish to break down eternity's walls,
But no mourning prayer will bring him back.

The winds of forever have swept him away,
To now silently dance among the clouds.
Resting within our hearts his spirit stays,
To even have known his name, we are proud.

Wow, this is such a moving poem, I find it very sad because I only knew his name.

I know many people were touched by the this boy's death. I saw people who only knew his name, my teacher included, cry. It's frightening, but his memory is immortalized beautifuly in this moving piece, excellent job, Krista.
