The Osprey calls
across the water,
scrawny necks jab
from their precarious incubator
expletives of hunger.
The tree that sweeps the sky
is a nursery of fluff
gleaned from the hole in the cushion
and the old broom's straw.

In the gold and green morning
the rooster's crow
rudely reminds
the sun to rise
while down in the deep
blue green mystery
of the lake
the line settles
jerks, and waits
for the silver dream that tugs
at the heart of
all fisherman.

We sweep the glazed
surface of the lake,
play with the wake,
walk on water,
feel the grace of fish
and seabird.

At night
silence is the ripples slop
against the boat,
a sudden splash
and the moon's
silver path of light
as it crosses the observatory
of the sky.

Take me there again dream,
to that place of sleeping bags,
take me from my curtained room
to pine needles and hippy tea,
take me there tonight.

Though not a fan of fishing, this poem certainly made me want to be on that boat! I love it.

Thanks you two--my mother and father-in-love own this place, no running water and you can only reach it by water, but the best outhouse in Trinity County. If you don't like to fish then you've never had trout for breakfast.

I admire this piece of writing very much. Free verse and yet well-defined and structured with every word important and in its proper place.
