She strokes ivory, high-low-high Chords striking indifference in this blues bar Long straight blonde hair swings rhythmically Her pure-as-liquid-silver voice hushes the crowd Green eyes penetrate the chosen ones Men twist round in their chairs Too good for this foul smelling joint Her sultry, dusk voice hits home Sparking interest with her song The rising and falling diphthongs Wrapped in a shimmering sea foam sheath Bejeweled long fingers loving ivory Smoke drifts around like ghosts, unaware She is lost in the realms of reverie Her intensity bounces around in waves It radiates, permeates and alters the air Enrapt, catching breaths involuntarily A moment captured, she alone owns Bar maids stand still, trays in hand bartender mid stream beer flows Witnesses of her gift, she shares Taste of heaven, glimpse of purity As brief as the song is long A reminder of all they lack (c) 1999 CM Bailey |
