She may only be five, but she damn well understands- Why daddy doesn't have the time, he has another family to attend. It's her birthday today- she pretends you'll be here this time, But daddy isn't here to light the candles on her cake. And once again I cover for you, "daddy's always working late." She blames herself for your misuse of love and parenthood. You could call or write, do something that you should. If you watched our little girl- with her tear stained face and night shirt, If you had to answer her pitiful questions- "why doesn't daddy love me anymore?" "Have i been so bad mama?- so bad that daddy went away?" "If i promise to be good mama, will that make daddy stay?" I love our daughter dearly- I almost loved you as much, But as I watch her cry herself to sleep, I know that forever will be just the two of us. |

So sad, your poor little daughter, I feel her pain. Hope this doesn't hurt but sounds like you are well rid of him. Thanks for sharing ------------------ Cast your eyes on the ocean, Every man goes down to his death bearing in his hands only that which he has given away... ~Isis~ (Daughter of Mystery) |

Tell your daughter Happy Birthday from me. I'm sorry so many parents leave their children when they leave their spouse. I wrote a poem called "Is Love Just a Lie?", you might be able to relate to it quite nicely. Divorce hurts the children first and last. The innocent are scarred. Can't remember if I posted that poem in this forum or in the critique one, (can't remember the name of that forum at the moment). |

Very moving poem Devina. My heart breaks at your daughters' pain...so unfair!! I wonder if you have shown this piece to her father? If he reads this, maybe it will make him see the error of his ways. It touched my heart deeply...... ------------------ A soul that writes from the heart and shares it, truly gives a gift extrordinaire! |

Talk about flashbacks. Wow. I know just what your daughter feels like, for I have been there myself. Sometimes divorce is the best thing to do, but sometimes we don't see it as that. I wish the two of you the best of luck. ) |

I want to thank you all for sharing mine, as well as my daughter's, pain in this poem. This has always been a touchy subject for me and I feel that poetry is the only way to express such a thing. My heart goes out to all that have been through this type of thing. pepper- no, sadly my ex husband has not had the decency to contact our daughter in the last year. He has his new family, and your right about being better off. I thank you all and much love! |

I was touched by this poem. So many children blame themselves when their parent's split up. May the bad times make you stronger. |

I'm really sorry to hear about that. Tell that little sweet one HAPPY BIRTHDAY from us! It's too bad that it has to be that way. I'm sure that's really hard on her, and her dad is really missing out on such a sweet soul. It is his loss, and quite a real shame! God bless you both! Devina, as a single mom who often has to cover for my ex, I understand your pain perfectly! You expressed it well and it broke my heart to read the last two lines. As someone else said, you'll have to love her enough for two. |

All I would like to ask is why cover for him at all? I am a single mother of 3 and my kids have not seen him in 2 years. They ask where is his I tell them. They ask why he doesn't call...I tell the truth. I do not know!!! All I know is that it is niether their fault nor mine. They have a question (which they don't anymore) I tell them that they have to ask their father because I don't have those answers. Be truthful with your kids. Do not belittle or condemn the man, just be honest. Here is where we have to tred lightly. There is a fine line between honest and bashing (especially my ex!) I would never bash him in front of my children but I can not excuse or reason his behavoir. To be able to explain it I would have to understand it and I don't. My children are my life and I can not, by any stretch of the imagination, leave them. |

marilyn- think that you are very right in the aspect of truthfulness. it's just hard to watch our little girls heart break every time he doesnt care. he was a very good father up until he met his new wife. the thing i dont get is, how can he just jump from one family to the next and not have a guilty consiance about it? i felt that his love for us was real up until that awful day when i got a phone call saying that he wouldnt be coming home again. i try to be honest with my daughter but theres so much pain in her eyes, that it kills me to admit that he doesn't need either one of us in his life. im starting to realize that we're better off, and i want to thank you all for your concern,whtdove- she loved the birthday cake! thank you and much love to you all. |
