(Andrew, I still have your original response to this. Thank you again for your kind words)

I press the button eagerly.
What messages await me there?
I sit in rapt attention
Settled in my easy chair.

BLEEP! "Your mother, son. Why don't you call?
Have you forgotten me!?"
BLEEP! "The cleaners here. It's ready."
BLEEP! "The bugman comes at three."

BLEEP! "Our tee time's set for 12:15
So be there before noon."
BLEEP! "This is your doctor calling, Mike.
Let's check that bump out soon."

BLEEP! "Sir, we have got a deal for you......."
BLEEP! "Congrats, friend! You have won...."
BLEEP! "The FOP needs your support........."
And the bleeping thing goes on!

Now, the sun has slowly dropped behind
The ridge of yonder hill
And the night is fast approaching with
The coming autumn chill.

The birds have made their southward run,
The night is calm and still.
The world revolves around me
Just outside my window sill.

My mother passed ten years ago.
Oh, God! I miss her bad.
My golf clubs rusted from neglect
Just like the friends I had.

The small bump I ignored so long
Has now become full-blown
And, so I sit, a quiet man
Afraid and all alone.

So, when I'm filled with strong desire
To recall good times back then,
I take out old tapes that I have saved
And play them once again.

My Sweet Balladeer....I had some smartassed remark when I saw the #1 on this. By the time I reached the end of it I just...*sigh*. My hope is that this is one from your creative side and not from your life. Such a lonely existance this portrays.

Much truth in this one! I think I'm going to go take care of a few things that have been gently gnawing at me....fewer regrets later!
Thanks Balladeer for the reminder! Great poem too!

Oh, yes, Marilyn, it's from the creative side. My golf clubs will NEVER rust from neglect!

Thank you, Denise.

hehe. Words haven't run out, Marilyn, time has. Spending too much time doing silly things like earning a living instead of writing poetry.

Sy and Martie......my thanks to you both.

I guess I have an advantage there. My work is realativly uncreative, my hands never idle but my brain doesn't have to be totally there. I create while I make a living and as soon as I have a spare moment I write down the swirlings of my mind. This is both a blessing and a curse.

I look forward to the time when you have the time to put your pen back to the paper.

Balladeer, I don't come to this spot often but when I get the time I like to of course read the replies that I have recieved from earlier posts and to read a couple of other posts and to post one of mine. I love reading your work but it has been quite intimidating for me to reply to your work... you have so many fans. I have read all the replies that you have posted to my poems and It means a lot comming from you. So thank you. And please know that you definitely have a fan in me...eaven if I keep quiet most of the time..I read your poems and i truely admire your work... Keep posting your work and I will keep reading...
luv.
Mia...
ps- this poem was wonderful... (as all your other ones!)

What??? You mean Balladeer has a life beyond poetry??? From your work, one wouldn't think so! I am (like everyone else) a true admirer of your work and, like Mia, I do find that it is sometimes hard to reply to your poems because you're so,...well,..GOOD. But I try, let me tell ya, and I'm never sorry when I come across another one of your masterpieces. You're a true poet, 'Deer. Keep writing.

Sir Balladeer: I remember this from dear old #1. Great then... great now. Thanks for going back and reposting... it's like picking up that favorite book to read and read again. Classics just never get old... and you Sir are a classic. As always... I bow to you and yours.
