I was recently thinking about names.
What’s in a name?
Just a word,
a few letters strung together,
given us at birth,
carefully thought out.
You had your name
before I knew you.
I had mine
before I knew me.
Your name is who you are.

But, it is not really you.
It’s written on tree trunks
and with a finger on the
fogged up window of the car,
you sign it
with love,
but who are you really?
I sign my name to this poem,
but who am I?

Then I got to thinking
what would happen
if I were just a symbol
of the letters that spell my name
and my name
was who I was.
It would play around with
the words in this poem,
probably not make any sense
at all,
then sign itself
with blood.

Mine!
