Nine out of ten say she doesn't look pretty.
One out of ten says she does.
Nine out of ten say she never was, really.
One out of ten says she was.

She knows that the nine out of ten are right.
With good looks she'd never been blessed.
She's not foolish enough to think she could stand
Up in pride when compared to the rest.

And she knows that the one who says she has worth
Is not suffering from fits of blindness.
No, his words just refer to the goodness in her
And he just wants to treat her with kindness.

So, nine out of ten show her reality
And one out of ten fantasy.
Nine out of ten show her just what she is
And one, what she can hope to be.

Though she may never find the success she is seeking
Still, her load is much lighter because
Although nine out of ten say she doesn't look pretty
One out of ten says she does.

Oh that every person would realize that is not what's outside, it's what's inside that counts! What a way with word you have. Spinning and weaving! I am taking lessons.

Good one Balladeer. Takes one wonderful person to be that one out of ten. You always amaze me at what you come up with.

I liked this one a lot! You've said so much here that I agree with! Now if I could find that "one" in ten, I'd be a happy girl!

You are a Master at you're art Balladeer...despite what nine out of ten people here think about you.

Well, you snuck in there while I was responding. If you say you're not a lady, that's ok by me!

One person smiling, caring, just being a friend is enough for some to feel blest. You created another wonderful thought provoking poem here Balladeer, and now I bow to you in honor.

This should be sent to all people who have low self esteem - myself included. Or, at least, there was a time, and I found myself in your rhyme.

Thank you 'Deer. From my heart.

Beautiful poem Balladeer! You should watch the new movie AMERICAN BEAUTY. It took them hours and millions of dollars to simply show us what your poem says in just a few lines. It really touched me.

Well, I read this poem last night, and it helped me get through hard times, and realize that there are still people who will appreciate me and think I am worth the effort. I liked this poem very much. Nicely done!!

I love this one....It is so true. It sometimes just takes one person to make some one feel more special than ever. I'll say it again....I love this one.

Beautiful poem, Balladeer... I'll have to ditto Hoot and say God bless that one out of ten! (of course, in my case, it took one out of ten thousand to find something redeemable and worthwhile! LOL)

And ROFL @ Michael & Deer...

Very lovely, Balladeer! Had a similar conversation this afternoon with my 5 year old granddaughter! She said she had a 'boyfriend' in kindergarten. My daughters and I all asked her what is his name and is he cute? She smiled, told us his name is Miguel and no he is not cute but he is so very nice to her! Seems to me she is very smart for 5 years old! (or any age for that matter!)
