Heaven's Bloom |

Father, why do you mourn? Rejoice! As the first breath of evening softly whispers, turn unto the skies as heaven's garden blooms in majestic splendor. Open your heart and touch upon my ethereal bloom. As I was lain in the silent tomb, I entered Gethsemane's gate and passed through God's portal, blooming in his eternal grace. Rejoice! Gentle Rose Gentle Rose, for e'er I will remember Thy perfect grace, asleep in final slumber, Angelic face, upon death's pillow lay As mourners weep and silent dirges play. Cries of grief and sorrow, silence of the tomb, What requiem, for rose that ne'er will bloom? What bell doth toll the passing of a child? A life so young, so pure... unreconciled That death should take her now without remorse Just as her life sets sail its rocky course. Come Terpsichore, and sing your song of dance And curse the evil Thanatos, whose lance Strikes deep into the mourner's grieving soul. Rise up I pray, her life I do extol, A gentle rose, whose beauty graced this earth, A loving soul, so caring full of mirth, I beg of thee, no songs of sorrow weep, But shout our hymns of praise, so all might keep Her in our hearts for e'er, for we have known A gentle rose, that God now calls his own. Set Me Free Gentle Rose One year has passed since Gentle Rose has died, Since dirges played and silent mourners cried, When does the pain release its viselike grip Upon the soul, let loose this sinking ship? Adrift upon this childless sea, I gaze Upon her empty room, as empty days, In silent scream, black pain does overwhelm, No where to sail, no Captain at the helm. O' Gentle Rose, why won't you set me free, I beg of you, why won't you answer me? Do not you hear, I sing your hymns of praise? Upon my knees, I seek your sweet bouquets. O' Gentle Rose, your bud will never bloom, But yet I fear, 'tis I within the tomb. [This message has been edited by Mike (edited 10-26-1999).] |

What tremendous sadness... if this pain is yours, you have my sympathy... and a sincere hope that the grief will lessen. |

Suthern, I am blessed with four healthy children. In my line of work, I often deal with parents who are suffering the death of a small child either through homicide, accident or unexplained death. The poems are my thoughts on what they must be suffering through, although I know I could not begin to imagine their grief. |

Incredibly beautiful. I'd love to see these pieces published in a work made specifically for grieving parents. How comforting such a book would be for them. You write very special words...thank you. ------------------ "Tread softly, for I have spread my dreams under your feet"~~William Butler Yeats |

Mike, this is simply beautiful and shows the depth of your soul and the compassion in your heart. (but I already knew that!) Excellent job of describing grief. This would definitely be a comfort to someone suffering loss, especially the loss of a child. ------------------ Denise |

Wow, Mike, this was quite powerful. Love the way you ended it... O' Gentle Rose, your bud will never bloom, But yet I fear, 'tis I within the tomb. Classic. ------------------ Michael Anderson Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream? |

Beauty and compassion on a subject incomprehensible to me. The loss of a child...~sigh~ As alway, Mike...lovely work. |
