What happened to our oath and why?
love, honor, and respect...
till death do us part
words promised to God, the most High.

Which we soon find weary
a sacrament given by God
taken for granted just
a year or decade after we marry.

Isn't it a commitment made to your new spouse
and to Heavenly Father that your best
will be your daily vow?
Why then...are you soon roused?

There was no clause that said
only if I'm in the mood, or
if my job doesn't intrude,
or I'm too tired, I want to go to bed.

It angers me to hear all the crying
for not complying with this contract
made with God...
Infedelity, drunkenness, and lying.

We will have to answer to him when dying;
what will you say?
Do you think He will believe all the excuses
as told to your partner for never trying?

Of course He won't believe what you say
He'll make you take a hard look inside at
all the times you failed to give, when you could
That's okay for now, as long as it's later before you pay.

What greater crime could we possibly commit
than to break our contract with the most High?

All it will take for us to awake
and find the true meaning of living,
is to love from within and see the bliss in,
the honest true value of giving.

Very well expressed Julie !

I like where you went with this Julie....reminding us that our wedding vows are indeed a contract with God as well as between ourselves.....
Thank you for sharing this piece!

Vows are dangerous creatures ... they have a way of coming back to bite the one that swore them. I agree with you that they should only be taken in the greatest and most unrelenting faith. Well put.
