Afterglow

Basking in the afterglow:
Of my first thought of you.
That little tingle that I had,
Flooded me through and through.

Contented in the afterglow:
Of us becoming friends.
Sharing secrets together,
Our ears were there to lend.

Drifting in the afterglow:
When things begin to change.
You had problems, I had mine,
And my life, I rearranged.

Returning to the afterglow:
When our lives settled down.
During it all we stayed in touch.
Better friends could not be found.

Consumed by the afterglow:
When our desire begin to burn.
We gave into our temptation,
And that is when I learned.

Rejoicing in the afterglow:
Of making love sweet and slow.
And of finally knowing the truth,
When it was time for you to go.

Now the afterglow diminishes:
Though my love for you was true.
It breaks my heart to know,
You didn't feel the way I do.

The afterglow still illuminates:
Though lovers we won't be.
I will always be here for you,
As I know, you are for me!
