It started as a showpiece,
books placed upright and neat.
I placed an ivy plant on top
"House beautiful" complete!

Time passed in a busy home
we seem to move to fast.
The books are shoved in carelessly
now show-off time has passed!

Five pictures now stand on one shelf,
a broken vase below.
Three college catalogues are stacked
(not sure where they should go!)

Two bibles-old and often used,
a joke book next to them.
A Christmas napkin stuffed between
"Psychology" and "Chem".

I know that it looks fine that way,
with books stacked loose and free.
My bookcase is a looking glass,
a mirror, reflecting me!

Hey Echo, I didn't know that you lived in my house. Where have you been hiding? LOL! This sounds just like my bookcase (and myself)

I know exactly what you mean! Its like you go to such trouble to make everything look perfect, and then when you don't have time to keep things the way they were put, It all falls into the way it is naturally.....And I find that people's homes often reflect their personality, not in the decorations, but in the way it's kept up. Good read, my friend.

I really enjoyed this great description. You can tell alot about a person by their bookscase, that's true, and I think that I like you.
