No one's perfect, I say to myself As your hand flies through the air, Heavy but fast, To knock me to the floor. No one's perfect, I tell myself Even as the gun hovers inches from my face, And I see your lips move, But cannot hear a sound. No one's perfect, I repeat over and over again, As I wake up traumatized, Struggling to regain the dignity That once was mine... Or was it? No one's perfect, I affirm-- As privacy, for me, Becomes a distant memory. No one's perfect, Especially not me, I say, When saviors stand by, Eager to help, But I find my heart cemented to yours, And hear you call this "love." ------------------ Shannon D. I would usually read a piece of darkness with enthusiasm and devour it with delight. This piece of darkness makes me want to soothe your fears, wipe away the tears and help you in this fight. I have too many women in my life this applies to, thank you for reminding me of them. ------------------ Patience is a virtue, but virtue has never been one of my redeeming qualities. |

always amazed how you take the harshest subject and create something meaningful out it... excellent job on this... it really makes the reader think, and that is what writing is all about (besides serving as therapy for the writer!).... -C |

Krystal...thanks for shedding some light on the things most of us don't talk about...for putting in words all those things that happen behind closed doors...and for giving a voice to all those who scream in silence...hats off...coming from someone who's been there before... |

Can't say I've been there, thank God, but have known someone who has, and it is hard to understand why that person stays. You set my mind straight as to why. Great poem! |

Thank you, Lost Dreamer! And yes, there are many complex reasons why victims stay... one of the biggies is a phenomenon called "learned helplessness." It's something to learn about in cases where you wonder why a friend stays and it doesn't make any sense. I'm glad you liked the poem. Thanks so much for your comments! ------------------ Shannon D.
