against the pale red rocks you glistened; standing watching fish in the middle of the stream- like a little boy you were poking the water with a branch of oak- fascinated by the chaos you created... and I asked-sitting safely on the shore, "what is it with men and their need to poke things"? you glanced up a smile tugging at your lips one hop then two... across the stones and water- splash; you were in front of me everywhere around me, striking your best manly pose- "we guys just like to probe." And I laughed as you threw the branch away- so we watched as it tangled in the rocks floated upstream and disappeared- a visual representation of my heart. I wonder- where it will end up? ------------------ "And I thought: this is how poetry is born. It comes from invisible heights, it is secret and dark in its origins, solitary and fragrant, and like the river it will assimilate whatever falls in its current; it will seek a route between the mountains, and its crystalline song will ripple through the meadows."- Pablo Neruda [This message has been edited by Christina Myers (edited 06-26-99).] |

hello.. this is my first official response and post.. so I am reading back through old poems, trying to get my grip on how things run. But I have to say I really like this one-very much in the moment. And it's very sweet. -the muse- |

It sounds so innocent, like walking through a dream. I like the visual representations you use here, of pale red rocks and the kind of questions you ask. It makes me feel like I am missing something ancient - something escaping worries and time, also it distantly reminds me of the tone used in the series Wheel of Time. Almost done in the grand old style. Please take this as a compliment. [This message has been edited by Nimrod the Hunter (edited 06-27-99).] |

Wow- thanks you guys.. high praise indeed, Nim.... I love the Wheel of Time series. Take my advice, go to Sedona. You won't regret the experience. -Christina- dreaming of red rocks and hillside flowers ------------------ And I thought: this is how poetry is born. Hmmm.... now you have me wanting to go to Sedona! I enjoyed this poem very much, simple yet eloquent... and I loved the way it just came alive. Truly a mark of a good writer! ------------------ Shannon D. Montgomery ("Krystal") |

"we guys just like to probe" -- How true, how true. You made me laugh. You also painted a very nice picture in my head. Thank you. Andrew P.S. Thanks for the read and and kind response on my own posting. I'll seek to do the same when ever possible. |

Oops! I went back (hoping it would not show I editted because of a mere error), and now I have two postings similar except for the "the". That brings up another question I must ask the moderators: how to delete one of my postings. I have a magic wand... Watch this......Poof!! It's gone... If anyone else wants something (that I haven't noticed) to disappear, just email me and ask..NAN [This message has been edited by Nimrod the Hunter (edited 06-27-99).] [This message has been edited by Nan (edited 06-30-99).] |

hello christina, i really like this poem. you are very good at visualization, but i especially like the last stanza. you describe how my heart feels toward the man in my life. quite tangled but loving him just the same! and in a good way - not bad. ~ celtic rose ~ |

In Sedona where the red rocks lie, On Coffepot rock where My soul does fly, Peace and tranquility not found elsewhere, Nestled in my heart, are memories there, To sit with friends on a rock creekside, Twas known to all, no feelings you need hide, Sitting there, my tears did fall, Our wandering side felt natures call, Far down the river rocks we ran, Down the river of memory, we ran. -Insanity. I don't normally rhyme, just felt like it this time. Tis my first post, Thanks to Nimrod the Hunter for introducing me to netpoets ;-) |
