My only son has almond eyes; he's only six and often cries. He's short and thin for his tender age; his heart of hope often dances with rage. People say he won't settle down; he fidgets too much, he's such a clown. They say he argues, finds flaws in each word. He tries to explain how the world is absurd. He thinks too much, worries more. A tornato may come or there may be a war. He loves his family wants to be smart, does "nothing right" and hurts in his heart. He needs to be loved, honest and real. He needs to be taught its okay to feel. I can't keep him safe in a Mother's embrace, despite the pain I often see on his face. He think's he's "dumb", but he's too wise. he says he's "scared" with couragous eyes. The world can't yet see all that he holds a bright sense of hummor, a heart of gold. Soon he will grow and maybe "sit still" but what of the world he lives in until. I only can smile and tell him I care, remind him he's good and ruffle his hair. Someday he'll argue and people will see that what's now a disorder was meant to be. He'll learn from the label he wears each hour that challenging doubt gives a soul power. for Travis from Mom... ------------------ God is seen always in a child's eyes |

This really brought tears to my eyes. A wonderful tribute to your son. I think we should outlaw 'labels' in the new millenium! Really great |

my son had "ADD; Attention Deficit Disorder,"before they even had a name for it.He outgrew it eventually and now his son has ADD too. Patience and love is the best medicine;knowing "this to shall pass".Wonderful poem for all the little ones who have to survive this, and their families....Thank you for sharing ------------------ May your days be filled with lots of sunshine and your nights lit up by golden moonbeams |

Thanks for replying to the poem..this obviously means a lot to me. Pepper you are right about the ADHD. It is great there is a name for it, but so unfortunate that it is still widely misundertood in society. I have much hope for him..but he is still one of my "babies" and it's so hard to sit by sometimes. Thanks... |

Nothing against your Mom...but I'm not THAT old. Thanks for the comment! I hope my son's sense of hummor is just as good and zanny as yours when he "grows up"....chris |

I really liked this poem, of course I am all for anything that brings awareness to others. As the mother of a "Different Child" sometimes their strength amazes me. |

lucie..thanks and you are so right about those who are different having strength. Adversity really has a way of doing that... |

Wonderful. All children should have such parents ... maybe if they did, "different" children would not be so misunderstood ... have you read this to your son..? I am sure he would be so proud of Mom ... Rating: Three smiles, and a thanks. ------------------ "Nunc lento sonitu dicunt, morierus" (Now as I hear this bell tolling softly for another, it says to me, "Thou must die.") |
