Bittersweet

I once sat at a table
Surrounded by friendly faces.
Someone offered me a bowl.
"What is it?", I asked.
"Love," they said. "Drink deep."
And I wanted to,
Wanted to pull the bowl towards me,
To drain it till its barest dregs
Dribbled over my eager chin.
I pulled the bowl towards me,
Lifting heavy vessel to my quivering lips
And took a sip.
A rapturous taste enveloped me
Caught me in the maelstrom's eye
And set me gently down, dizzy and warm.
I went to drink Love deeply
In mighty draughts
When the bowl was snatched from me
By unseen hands
And broken upon the cold hearthstones.
Alone at the table I sit
Remembering the taste of Love
And yearning for another.

Good job, Alicat. I love anything that makes E.D. spring to mind ...

Exquisite poem - loved the depth and your style - hey, next time someone passes that bowl to you, you care to pass it on to me? I'd like a taste of that.....don't mind me if I dribble too. Very very nice!
