hushed voices anxious whispered prayers living (and dying) for their ancient faith unwilling to refute the God of their fathers sacrificial lambs led to slaughter by fear's own hand torturous deaths christian martyrs colliseum display hungry crowds watch in laughter and merriment as faithful servants die torn by lions burned alive human fights to the death each sacrifice more gruesome than the last blood lust thirst for vengeance upon a gentle people just living to serve their God trusting eyes turned to heaven knowing a glorious welcome waits never denying always proclaiming God's divine plan unable to speak an untruth in exchange for life hurried burials in catacombs of darkness each martyred soul laid to rest with reverence and grief as christian hearts sleep with God this night ------------------ God is really only another artist.
