Childish tears brushed away... a pat on the bottom, I'm off to play. catching fireflies in a jar, laughing, silly mom's not far calls us in for one last treat, makes us clean our filthy feet smiles and hugs kisses goodnight, this was my childhood, full of delight Years pass by and mom is ill it's my turn now to foot the bill I wipe her mouth I comb her hair I still see the beauty there. Days to months... months to years... I grow weary, shed my tears can't hope she'll stay her pains too real I wonder into which night she'll steal? Finally her relief comes and i find My grief just begun for these last years as I grew weary my memories faded, became quite bleary. I forgot to remember the joy I had I let her down, and also dad. so one last time brush away my tears, hold my hand, and quiet my fears let me pass this night in rest and believe i failed not this final test |

U've hit upon a seldomly expressed truth: Many survivors of those loved ones who've passed, feel they have failed them n some way. Well done. ------------------ I can only rule my own little world. But HOW I rule affects the whole universe. |

One of the most difficult times in a persons life-- taking care of a parent as they die -- trying to remember how they took care of you. And your poem relays that so well. Hats off to you for so clearly stating the dilemma and pain of this experience. dp |

You've done a lovely job expressing such a difficult situation. I want you to know that by taking care of your mom, you passed the test. Go to any nursing home, you will see the moms that never have visitors, though they have many children. It is very wearying to take care of an ill parent. The emotional stress is harder than the physical. Seems to me you aced the test, dear Good writing. Thanks for sharing it. ------------------ The only man worth your tears will never make you cry... |

There was no failure, here ... touching and well written. ------------------ "Nunc lento sonitu dicunt, morierus" (Now as I hear this bell tolling softly for another, it says to me, "Thou must die.") |

Welcome! This was very well written. Indeed a difficult subject to be addressed. You did more than most would have, you took care of her! God Bless you for that! I hope to see more of your work. Thanks for sharing such a heartfelt emotion with us. |

Welcome, once! I hope to se more of your work. This one was great-glad you posted it! Very sad though. I'm sure if your mom could read it, she'd love it, and tell you that you passed. Thanks for sharing. ------------------ *Elizabeth* "Dwelt a maid belov'd and cherish'd by high and low, But with autumn leaf she perish'd, long time ago..." |

Sometimes we have to accept that we can do no more than what we've done... You did your best, you showed your love... and your love still shines through this poem... Great job! |
