I've walked what seems like a million miles or maybe even two, but if I had to, I don't think I could walk half a mile in your shoes. I admire you for everything you do and all the obstacles you have made it thru. All the hills you have climbed you've seen so much trouble it seems like a crime. Everytime you thought you were on top something would happen and to the bottom you would drop. Yet thru it all you never gave in to the idea that you just couldn't win. From the start you had it hard, yet you have managed to get so far. Even when it all began it seemed like you were in sinking sand. So now you are told you may not be able to walk on. That when the doctors are done your left leg may be gone. Immediately my heart fills with sympathy and I beg the good lord "please". Then something dawns on me it wasn't your legs that got you this far... it wasn't your feet, but rather your heart. so in your pain and your fear I have a question and the answer is clear. Was it your legs that took you to where you are? Were your legs what got you thru your worst? Were they what helped you survive a divorce? When you had to raise four kids, what took you thru that, was it your legs that did? When your new husband had a heart attack how did your legs react? When your husband became permanently disabled, was it your legs then that put food on our table? When your youngest daughter was efflicted with scoliosis what power did your legs possess? When you suffered a stroke and you forgot every word you had ever spoke, was it your legs then or your heart that awoke? Was it your legs that allowed you to learn everything all over again and reintroduced you to all your friends? When you went blind what did your legs do that time? Which one was it that restored your sight? Was the left one or the right? When your husband fought with cancer, did your legs give you the strength of a dancer? so now I ask again, was it your legs or your heart my friend? My prayer to you is don't give up cause you'll always have your heart and that's whats carried you from the start. [This message has been edited by wordweaver (edited 08-27-99).] |

I realise that this was written a long time ago. I really hoped eveything had been well for your mom. This is a really lovely poem, and mothers are juz the most admirable persons on earth. _,,,^.^,,,_ |
