If this offends anyone, I apologize in advance ... it is a commentary on commercialism, not Christianity The Price of Salvation Saint Joseph, Saint Jude, and Saint Peter all stand Neatly arranged in a row, Each one arrayed in his saintly attire, His hands and expression just so. And each, in his way, is a symbol of faith In how glorious Heaven will be -- So, we lighten our pockets, and carry them home, And place them out under a tree. There hangs our Lord Jesus, the Saviour, the Lamb, In plaster, or porcelain, or gold -- On the Cross, where He suffered and died for our sins -- But His eyes, raised to Heaven, are cold: Hang Him up on your wall; and remember Him As you sip of your sacrament wine: With your gold-plated ultimate sacrifice That you bought for a buck ninety-nine. When I think on a Father, who gave His Son As a promise of infinite grace To souls who so quickly belittle his love And would turn from his ready embrace -- If the Lord had to do it all over again, I wonder, would He have agreed? If he knew that his mercy, above all, would be Most profitable, indeed! ------------------ "Nunc lento sonitu dicunt, morierus" (When I hear the bell tolling softly for another, it says to me, "Thou must die.") |

Bravo! An excellent piece of work. Religion has moved a long way from when Jesus chased the moneychangers away, proclaiming religion and business had no place together. Just send those dollars in, folks, receive your plastic Virgin Mary and you'll be saved. |

As it says in the bible: 'Thou shalt not have any idols before me....' (I agree with your words completely) |

They say you can't take it with you, and I know that this is so; my plan is to give one heck of a party and the mourners will come to the show! ------------------ Sunshine Words will always express our feelings true. ~~~ KRJ Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

Nochtdraco, I agree with balladeer. You did a wonderful job with a sting in the end. |

Draco Yep... isn't it glorious how humanity has managed to take a simple message of forgiveness and repentance and turned it into a message of judgement and condemnation - and all for 10% of weekly earnings? You'll not hear 'Heretic' from me, my friend. When Jesus comes back, he is gonna be really p.o.-ed about the perversion of his prior ministry. |

I think that those who have to surround themselves with these objects, are simply doing it to REMIND themselves on a day to day basis, what their focus is suppose to be??? Maybe?? So that they won't be so "bad" today?....who the heck knows, I'm just rambling on and giving the poor souls the benefit of the doubt.....But you're right, if they would take their money spent on foolish decor, and give it to someone hungry on the streets, I think Jesus would smile down on them in person !!! Not from a picture on the wall!! Very much needed sermon here Nochtdraco!!! Nicely written on top of that !!! Geat rhyme.... ------------------ - poet FemmeFatale "The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone..." Henrik Ibsen (1826-1906) Norwegian dramatist lyric poet |

I am totally non-religious, but I agree with every word you say. If you believe in a story like that, how can you use it for commercial ends? Wonderful poem. |

Absolutely wonderful piece of poetry. I agree with you. Every year I get sick over the commercialization of Christmas too. When I walked into a department store on the first day of August and saw Christmas decorations on the shelves, I wanted to scream. It's all about money and greed, no matter what time of year it is. ------------------ The only man worth your tears will never make you cry... |
