If you Want to Hear a Love Song We all have our many likes, and our dislikes too but if you want a song of beauty, then let me have a word with you. There is a cowboy singer, with three M’s in his name and he sings a song even our entrancing Balladeer would claim. “Spanish is the loving tongue soft as springtime, white as spray there was a girl I learned it from living down Sonora way “Now I don’t look much like a lover yet I say her love words over late at night when I’m all alone mi amore, mi corazone “There were nights when I would ride she would listen for my spurs fling that big door open wide and raise those laughing eyes of hers “And how’s we would get to flying pretty soon, I’d hear her crying please don’t leave me all alone mi amore, mi corazone “Then one time I had to fly I got into a foolish gambling fight I had to say a swift goodbye in that black, unlucky night. “And traveling North her words kept ringin’ and never left me, I could hear her singing please don’t leave me all alone mi amore, mi corazone “Well, I ain’t never seen her since that night I can’t cross the line, no she was Mexican, and I was white like as not, it’s better so. “And yet I have always sort of missed her since that very first night I kissed her I left her heart but I lost my own adios, mi corazone.” Written in ‘07, my heart skips a beat over the pen of Badger Clark, and his poem, “A Border Affair”. Who would have thought old crusty cowboys would have this quixotic love to share? Then in ’33 Bill Simon came along and wrote a melody for this lovin’ song; by the way it thrills my heart inside, I thought Passions the place for it to abide. 20 August, 1999 ©KRJ ------------------ Sunshine Words will always express our feelings true. ~~~ KRJ Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |
