She stands alone,
Against the wind,
Looking out at the river--
They are akin.

There's a kind of turbulence
Just under the calm;
There's wild in her eyes,
Like refugees of Vietnam.

Something unapproachable,
Danger just beneath the surface;
You can't be sure
Exactly of her purpose.

The innocence is thin,
Like ice gilding the whitecaps;
She embraces all of Danger's friends,
And she sits on their laps.

Still, there's something so sad
And sorrowful about this girl;
She stands so all alone,
Just one against the world.
