Familiar Stranger

I danced with a stranger tonight
~slowly, under low dimmed lights
his face quite familiar
as was each curve of his body

I danced with a stranger tonight
~close, as the music slowly played
his hips swaying with mine
in a dance danced many times before

I danced with a stranger tonight
~realizing, as I looked at him
after so many years...
I never really knew him at all

Sometimes I feel we can't really know someone until we know them when they're alone. But, then, if we're around when they're alone, they are not alone. So we can never really know them. Am I making any sense at all? (please say yes)

Balladeer........yes, I really do think I know what you are saying. People thought my ex-husband was a "great guy" little did they know. It took me a long time to realize I never knew him and he never cared to know me.

reminds me of my "ex" too, ...are all "ex's" like that... Maybe, otherwise they wouldn't be "ex's" huh?

So familiar, and so beautifully put. I'm sorry, Hoot, that you should know this.

Sue...thank you, but although I wouldn't wish my life on my worst enemy and would not want to replay that part of it...I do not regret it for it has made me the person I am and I truly like that person

Elvira...laughs, yes, I have a few, but believe you me, you wouldn't have wanted this one as a dance partner.

This is really nice, beautifully worded. I do know how you feel. The man I was going to marry hurt me so badly (emotionally) I lost 10kgs and wanted to die - at the tender age of 22! ( Couple of years ago) You're not alone...sadly.

Ruth, I recall this from another time and place - both literally and figuratively - I enjoy it even more today, knowing you're well....
