My plates are made of plastic
A regal shade of blue
As are my knives and forks and spoons
And serving dishes, too.

If, by some chance I stumble,
As I am passing by
And knock them off the table
They do not break....they do not die.

I have two plastic goldfish
Within a plastic bowl
Providing relaxation
To ease a troubled soul.

As long as I am careful
To keep the batteries dry
They'll swim along forever
They do not sink....they do not die.

I have a cocker spaniel
I named my buddy Ruff.
He doesn't run or chase a ball -
How can he when he's stuffed?

But he is always there for me.
Where I am-there he lies
And, though he'll never lick my face,
He does not leave....he does not die.

Your picture hangs above my bed.
The glass and frame are fake
But if it falls down from the wall
It has no chance to break.

Your beauty takes my breath away.
Your smile of sweet delight
Dispels the gloom from my small room;
Illuminates the night.

I place my fingers on your cheek
And, teardrops in my eye,
I disregard reality......
You don't get sick
You do not die.

In reality, there's this little thing called inertia that prevents planes and trains from making 180 degree turns in the blink of the proverbial eye. Fortunately for us, Balladeer, you know no such constraints - and your readers never quite know what destination lies ahead when they start on a journey with you. Go ahead! Lead me right up to the very edge of poignancy without me even knowing it. Then push me off!

I cannot imagine a poem any more perfectly crafted than this…

Ok....I was going to make some cute poetic comeback about your plastic blowup doll girlfriend, until the last stanza! You made me cry again! In my dictionary under the word perfection is a picture of you! Wonderful poem!

very inspiring to leave the unnatural behind... I felt like I should destroy all the venier particle board in the house, and go cut and make my own furniture. Sadly some people in life find refuge in the plastic reality... may they raed this and drop a tear themselves...

Balladeer, you never cease to amaze me. This one really pulled on my heart-strings. I pity the person in the poem so much it hurts! Wonderful. Just wonderful.

Balladeer's knives and forks,
Are plastic yes it's true,
And why he tries to housetrain Ruff,
Makes us all confused?

His "lady" in the picture frame,
He met through a magazine,
She's really wild and hard to tame
But the finest I've ever seen.

He too can take her breath away,
Since the first time that they dated
He must be careful when he "plays"
Because she is inflated.

Balladeer...Seriously...this was another masterpiece my friend.....

I don't think there are any verses left to sing in this song of praise... and you really wouldn't want to be subjected to my singing... ahem... talents! *G* So I'll just hum the chorus... Wonderful!!!!

Fantastic piece of work! Perhaps its my nature, but I was waiting for a humerous hook at the end, but you spun things perfectly, as you often do. I'm thinking this is a parallel to a hunchback of notre dame type of thing, yes?..

I am so glad Terri commented on this, thus I went back, dug it up and am so glad I did....I missed this while I was gone....!! I spent a great deal of time this morning looking back 20 pgs. or so to see what I had missed, but somehow this slipped by me! Thank you dearest Terri for alerting me to this masterpiece from Romeo himself ! **curtsie**
