Silence echoes through a barren home, As a mother stares filled with grief, in disbelief. For was it not only a week ago, That music played, children laughed, and her roses began to grow? She paces cold, loveless halls in her nightgown of exquisite lace, And thinks back upon a better time, a comforting and peaceful place. Her lips even part into a bittersweet smile, As she remembers how she first attracted him with her feminine wiles. Their wedding was a fairytale of flowing silk and flowers, Oh, and how at first they could talk away the hours. The passion cooled as the years seemed to fly by, But he was always there and never made her cry. Two beautiful daughters graced their happy life, Making a loving mother from a newlywed wife. How she adored the family that she had made, And she never suspected how her happiness would soon fade. Her life took a turn for the worst one balmy spring night, She was just too tired, not noticing when headlights roared into sight. With a frightening crash the car violently overturned, And when she awoke a month later, she was alone, she learned. To know her family had not suffered was a small relief, Oh, but how she now emptily stares in grief, in disbelief. For was it not only a single week ago, That in her life music played, children laughed, and her roses began to grow? ------------------ *Krista Knutson* Dusk Treader-- Thank you for the needed confession. I am hurt, but you are forgiven. [This message has been edited by Alwye (edited 06-20-99).] |

There's nothing to say - this poem left me speechless. It has so much in it .. so much emotion, a story that rocks my foundation - and I hope someone else opens it to read. Alison |
