He came when six weeks old The runt we were told Black and shiny He looked so tiny Not much hope was given For this beagle a'living Smut was his name He won community fame Ears that touched the ground Sometimes clothespins on them would be found He would allow many a "do" From a baby aged two Reach and pull tongue all the way out He would not pout Smut was gentile and kind Not a better dog would one find Never a growl or attempt to bite His temper was light Smut loved to sit in the corner of the yard At night would act fiercely on guard Barks are what you would hear From this dog so dear Strangers he would make tear With silly fear When he died The kids had a funeral and cried Psalms 23 was read Over Smut's death bed ------------------ [This message has been edited by Lil-bit (edited 08-05-99).] |
