The tiny lines around her eyes
defined the wisdom there.
The softest gentle touch of age
that showed upon her hair.

The way she wiped away my tears
when I was small and cried.
Sitting in her rocking chair
her puppy by her side.

The kind caress of wrinkled hands
the softness of her touch.
The way she smiled and looked at me
that showed she cared so much

The humor in the way she walked
that easy short stepped sway.
The way she told me quietly
that things would be OK.

The way she fixed my long brown hair
with ribbons that she tied.
Sitting in her rocking chair
her puppy by her side.

The way she always let me eat
my jelly bread and milk.
The way she let me sew a dress
for Barbie made of silk.

The way she often told my mom
to stop and leave me be.
Amazed I was to realize
that this was mom’s Mommy.

Lawrence Welk was on TV
the night my grandma died.
Sitting in her rocking chair
her puppy by her side.
