For so long he had kept a secret
Living a life of normalcy
Hoping to hide from those he loved
The truth even he did not want to see

The longings he held deep inside
The feeling of being someone he’s not
Many times it left him broken hearted
Feeling more often than not distraught

His wife she was an angel from heaven
A gift from someone high above
She taught him about respect and admiration
Showed him devotion and unyielding love

From her he kept this horrid secret
He’d do anything to protect her heart
She who had taken such care of him
Who kept his world from falling apart

But the mirror unlying showed him the truth
It gleamed in his eyes reflected in glass
He shut them tight and whispered a prayer
That this too familiar feeling someday would pass

Then one day he ran into someone who knew him
Someone who’d shared his past secret life
He awoke in him feelings he thought he’d forgotten
Secrets he kept from the world, from his wife

A few drinks led to the garden of eden
To the sin he knew he’d forever have to pay
He walked hand in hand with a snake without arms
Knowing too well the price he would pay

But for a moment the snake showed him that evil
Is a trap your mind sets out for your fall
When you live a life always conforming
Never admitting the truth of it all

The biggest sin is the lie you tell to yourself
When you try to be someone your not
It allows you to sell your soul to the devil
Waiting for the moment in hell to be caught

The price he paid was in the sound of her key
In the door on the night she should have been gone
One look in her eyes, his beautiful angel
And he knew his old life could never go on

For her disillusion was the word she had chosen
He chose to call it despair and distraught
The fear of her knowing his own hidden secret
And the relief that at last he’d finally been caught

The secrets were over, the two now have parted
Both of them carrying wounds that won’t heal
Hers from betrayal, the ultimate heartbreak
His from a truth he no longer could conceal

And the question of who was in the end more the loser
She from a heart ripped in pieces from his lies
Or he who must now again face the mirror
Forever to see who he is through her eyes?

For sometimes when the Darkness falls, we must surrender, take what is ours, and give what we can, and always remember love is somewhere waiting...

This hits home, my sister having gone through the same thing. Excellent work Az.
