I tip-toed out the front door
through the yard, into the street.
I couldn’t stay here any more-
Had to admit defeat.

I ran along the sidewalk,
past the houses oh, so tall.
I stepped where children wrote with chalk,
inside drawings, big and small.

I ran upon the concrete,
past homes of youth and eld,
past all the lovely yards, so sweet,
as if no eye beheld.

I ran past all the mail boxes
and I ran past the church.
Changing through the equinoxes;
flying past the trees of birch.

I ran outside the edge of town
in to the darkest night.
I was still in my evening gown
of subtle pearls and white.

I ran along the highway,
not stopping for a breath.
Not smelling flowers on the way,
I was running to my death.

I ran to see the graveyard,
I ran right through the gates.
The ground was really not so hard-
and I sat down to seal my fate.

‘Twas your tomb I sat upon;
I felt your body near.
Decaying, yes, sweet carrion...
Just knowing you were here...

I laid down on your flowers
and I sunk in to the ground.
Losing track of all the hours,
losing the sense of sound.

I felt your arms embrace me.
I exhaled just once more.
Together in tranquillity
we’ll be forever-more.

Melancholic and sad. It fits my mood perfectly.

Melancholy is a specialty of mine, I think...

I sooo Loved this...a beautiful piece, not the way one would typically think of a love poem, but love neverless. Well Done.
