As old age shakes a fist at me I smile as I remember when I had the fortune in my past To fool so many men. Since I was never very good I built a strong defense By keeping thoughts inside myself And living by pretense. Most men considered me their friend And, in my youth, girls drooled To think they had a chance with me - I really had them fooled. Within my air of nonchalance I never let them see The weakling that I tried to hide Way deep inside of me. Great admiration from afar Came easily to me But no one was permitted to Get close enough to see.... That I was not what I appeared. THEY were the normal men And I - a figure destined to Do nothing but pretend. Some called me egoistical Said I was too good to be Involved with them, when actually They were too good for me. I see you feeling sorry for This lonely stranger who Never got much out of life... See there! I fooled you, too! [This message has been edited by Balladeer (edited 07-30-99).] |

Balladeer, I never know where you are going until I get to the last line. That's a wonderful talent to have developed. Do you start at the bottom and work up? sandman |

Got me on this one.....I was ready to commiserate with you and then you zapped me! Fred, I like to work from the bottom to the top...the results are better. You get a firmer grasp of the outcome when you do it that way. |

Ballader was this a woman or a man? It says most men considered me there friends. And then it says in my youth girls drool.Or am I not understanding this? I'm so confused. Was this a man that was pretending to be a woman or vice-a versu? Sometimes I have trouble understanding things. I'm not the most intelligent person at times. And its even worse cause it's late and I did not get but four hours sleep last night.I know I should be in bed,but I wanted to read some poems and respond to them before I went to bed. |

Twas a man, Delores. The phrase was to show he got along with everyone....men as friends, women as droolers. It would be a sad state of affairs if they were reversed! Thanks for asking. |

As with Poet deVine, you really had me going too. What a talent you possess, Balladeer. ------------------ *Krista Knutson* "I will sail my vessel 'till the river runs dry, like a bird upon the wind, these waters are my sky..." Garth Brooks |

'Deer well, even with your warning, you keep fooling me. I suppose you are another scalawag, just like that rascally Toerag. I'd better hang onto my wallet because, as the adage says: A fool and your money are soon partners. I enjoyed your poem immensely. |
