Homeward
Long John

This walk, at first, a short brisk hike,
Has become an agony of cold and night.
The wind is sharp as it bites clean through,
Driving snow hides my tracks homeward to you.

I pull my coat closer as I duck my head,
My labored breath marking time to my tread.
I look up briefly into the storm's blast,
Then bend to this journey I've set as my task.

Blinking back tears coaxed by the wind,
Thoughts of you beckon me onward again.
I feel the cold as its numbing brings pain,
My thoughts begin wavering, my energy drained.

Why did I leave the warmth of my hearth?
What could have driven me into this dark?
The answer is simple. You simply asked,
"Honey, will you get me a box of Tampax?"

I was quickly reminded of Robert Frost as I went through each stanza, then I read the last line and laughed my little butt off...Thank you for a dose of great humor...

ya mean, I'm not in trouble????

Thank you one and all - both old friends and new. Without your encouragement, everything I write would be worth far less to me. That I have touched you, and perhaps made your day even a small part better, is all the credit I seek.

You had me going at first then the irony came. I couldn't stop laughing. I'm just so glad that you find inspiration in All worldly things.

So good to find this page. Brings back days of old, reading this group passing jokes and insults back and forth. The gang, LJA ( or as I often wrote LBJ),toerag, Kristie Sue, Loreli, Suthern and of course Dixie. Good to be here in the archives and finding you. best marty
