My hands tremble with anticipation as I reach out for her, My knees quake at the fragrance of her perfume And tears streak down my love battered cheek As I look up at her from below, My heart screaming her name Her hair floats in the wind And her eyes scan the horizon For the one who calls out her name. The pedestal I hold her on starts to sway As another wearing a mask calls her attention. Her light that guides my life begins to fade As she holds her hand out to another One who's soul is dark but who covers it with a facade of words and gifts. Darkness shrouds me as I stand there Holding my heart in my hands The sky turns black and the stars retreat to those who believe in their powers. My will starts to crumble from The pressure of my fallen hopes And I look away from the horizon, Scared of seeing another light to follow... Slowly I start to cover the candle, A light I have always had, A light brighter than any other, Smothered by my own fears, a beacon that I've always contained That longs to shine through the darkest night and capture the attention of those who seek it, a light that I once again choose to hide rather than risk heartache, a pain that seems to be my only proof of reality. ------------------ --------------------- ©1999 Guiltborn |
