In the space between moments

'Oh, I am so cold', an orphan girl thinks on a bitter winter's night,
There is no comfort in a dark alley devoid of love and light.
The tiny blonde girl is filled with great despair and fear,
But she does not give up nor shed a single crystalline tear.

Instead the child gazes at the brilliance of the stars,
And she dreams of better places, of great lands afar.
Of dastardly demons who diabolically plot and plan,
And of the brave warriors who fight the evil with an expert hand.

Of beautiful princesses adorned in jewels of gold,
And of lovely fairies, their spirits firey and bold.
She dreams of unicorns of silvery white with rainbow spiralled horns,
And of all-knowing kindly wizards who never hate or scorn.

Of great scaled dragons of honor and love,
And of ethereal beings from the great skies above.
As the lonely girl gazes at the shining night sky,
She silently wishes to find this world and from her comes a longing sigh.

The orphan girl then closes her weary azure eyes,
And feels a warming comfort as she begins to slowly rise.
As she looks one last time at the shrouded sky of midnight blue,
She smiles tenderly, for she knows her dreams will now come true.

Beautiful images you weave into this sad tale. Can I just believe the warming
comfort she feels as she begins to slowly
rise, are rescuing arms? A mommy to fulfill
all her dreams.....

Ah, It would be wonderful if it were a mom's arms that saved that little girl...but this story just didn't want to end that way. Thank you both for your comments. I appreciate it.

i never call a poem "nice" or such,
for that would not be saying much
