You made me feel dependent. Weak. I sank to pleading for each caress. My spirit, once the best part of me, I subdued because you thought it best. You blew through my life in a blast, Thoughtlessly sweeping aside my dreams. Eroding my strength, the love I had, Consuming them both to suit your means. The deepness of my relief states, Joy found me when you slipped your hold. My new feelings of worth obviate, Old memories of remorse and cold. The past is gone, the present aches, My future lies ahead unclear. Your are the wind. That was my mistake, But now you're gone. I'm free. I'm here. This wasn't wasted, I read it and liked it and am sending it back to the top so that everyone will get a chance to read it too. |

Elizabeth and Craig Thank you for your words of encouragement. Feedback is the food of poets (although contributions from wealthy benefactors never hurt, either!) |

...wow! This is amazing. May I share this with a friend of mine? (with all due credit and respect to the talented author, of course!) I really think this is something she needs to see. Thank you for posting it! |

Oh Great Satiated One.... Yes - you may print it - my pen name is Long John. Thanks for the kudos. Dreamie One, Thank you for the compliment. There may be some talent in me, but a lot of it is just a desire to work at it - talent alone is not enough, and it is not a necessary trait to be a good poet. It just makes it easier. Hone your edge, no matter the temper of your steel. A thrust to the heart does not depend on the alloy, but on the skill of the fencer. And skill is proportional to the amount of work you invest. |

Long John, indeed a wonderful poem. One question..."you are the wind"? Meaning the other was unattainable regardless of what the first did? I am not sure I understood that in the way you meant it to be. No one should have to beg for love. No one should be broken down in body or spirit by another. I spent 17 years of my life existing, not living and it almost cost me everything I am. I went almost 14 years without writing a single word, for to bring out the words meant to deal with the feelings and it was easier not to feel at all than to feel the hurt. ------------------ "Nobody has measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold" ~Zelda Fitzgerald |

Hootess The wind is the other person, somebody who had no more substance to them than the wind, who is here today and gone tomorrow, leaving behind pain, regret, and joy (in their leaving). The first person is glad the nightmare is over, and he/she is free at last from a life similar to the one you lived. |
