At night I sweat Tossing, turning My sheets getting wet Sleep I am spurning Had the dream once more Awoke with my heart thumping Last night and the night before The blood through my veins, pumping Something following me In the dark, it chases As I look behind, I try to see But, I see no faces Houses fly past As I run down the street I hope my heart will last No one else do I meet It's advancing I can smell its emanation Behind me I keep glancing Hoping it is my imagination I fall, I trip, and I am caught I can hear it bubble with glee It has what it has sought I cringe and wait for what's in store for me I can feel its presence It comes closer to me The fear in my soul it can sense All my muscles too tired to flee As it gets ready to eat I awake in my bed I jump to my feat Thanking God I am not dead I act like a child, filled with foreboding That I should have outgrown But anytime am slumbering I can here its moan My life is a shambles For in my sleep A demon rambles My concentration I cannot keep I hope it will stop Cannot keep this up much longer Pills I try to drop Uninterrupted sleep I do hunger Maybe tonight I will rest Having slept through the night In the morning feeling my best Not having to fight I will just rest my eyes Trying not to stir Hoping not to hear my cries As I awake due to the monster Had the dream once more Awoke with my heart thumping Last night and the night before The blood through my veins, pumping |

I've had a few reoccuring dreams, but never so terrorfying as what you portray here. I like how we never get to really see what is stalking the narrator and how the nightmare effects the real world. Good job. |

Dr. Freud says: no more taco bell, the little dog could be the moster chasing you from hell ...enjoyed this poem, felt the racing heart beat ------------------ If I had my mouth I would bite. If I had my liberty I would do my liking. In the mean time, let me be that I am, and seek not to alter me. ~~~Shakespeare~~~ |

captures the fear I've felt in some of my similar dreams well. Wonderful! ------------------ *Krista Knutson* "It's a crazy thing, fate has perfect wings..."-Deanna Carter |

I gotta admit, it did give me the shivers while I was reading it. Last year I awoke from a dream screaming at 3 a.m. Good memories, though, after awhile.... I noticed one thing, (directed to elvira) but your ip address is similar to mine. Are you using netzero, elvira? (oops, it's the other ip address in my first reply above...)
