I can't know if your looks are hot
But, sweet Elvira, plain you're not!
Anyone can plainly see
Your beauty in your poetry.

Your eyes MUST sparkle with your wit.
I'm sure your mouth turns up a bit.
Your nose is not stuck in the air.
I sense the softness in your hair.

With all of these strong qualities
I pity men who cannot see
That lines may always look quite plain..
The beauty is what they contain.

Balladeer said it best. Trust me, I've been there. Excellent poem, it captures the feeling well. Keep up the great work!

There is no such thing as perfect, for everyone's definition would be different. I would describe you as gifted, and that makes you special.

Wonderful writing Elvira. Unfortunately this
is sometimes true. But for every person there
is someone out there. And that is all that matters.

I did not see it as a self-pity poem, I saw it as a down to earth description of an average person looking for a little more gratification in their life.

I understand about it not being self-pity. And you are speaking from my heart, too. Like a cry to heaven, "why?" and who can we blame? Men are made the way they are made, they did not choose it any more than we did. Are we to blame God (He did it!)? Cosmo (airbrushing...grrrrrrr!)? Ourselves for lying about our weight, age, etc (confusing to the poor dears, you know)? Women are always seen as in competition with each other...we are not. Just in competition with the ideal. Which we can never match. Want to hear something really ironic? In doing what we are here for, we make ourselves less attractive (childbirth, nuff said, huh?), for a man it is the opposite. Sad but true. And how's that for fair?

So incredibly touching and sadly so true for so many of us.

Very well done Sweet Lady.

Perfect you'll not be
Nor either will I
Perfection means nothing
Here under God's sky

But unbridled passion
And one's loyal soul
Are always in fashion
And always my goal

Love everything that's good...

There is a saying, is there not, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder? For no one is plain... and everyone is special in someone else's eyes... and the charlatans in the glamour press that promote "perfect beauty" are fools, for there is no such thing. No, elvira, plain you are not, for though none of us has ever seen you, your beauty lies in your words... the brain sees what the eyes do not -- the most important of all -- the inner beauty and attraction of the mind

its obvoius your poam is not speaking of self pity
and that from your words comes your beauty
as for the net it serves its purpose well
and supplies to so many just what they need
for when iwas lonely it worked for me
not one to care what others say
i found a girl on here and now she is my fiance
so take pride in who you are and now you have a great gift and great friends

Men who only want to be with a woman for her looks aren't worth having, anyway. This is a poem written by someone strong, and extremely well written, too. Good stuff, Elvira!

With perfection, would come boredom.
I see in you elvira, anything BUT a plain woman. I realize this wasn't a self-pity poem, but this is a subject I feel very strongly about! I agree that a good portion of it stems from the media (may they burn in hades!)
I think the true "plain" people, are those who satisfy themselves, seeking the ideal dream. And what is a dream, if not something that is unreal. For me, I would be happy with a crone (according to their standards) who had a mind that was sharp, and a good sense of humor! Much better that, then an empty shell of physical beauty. 'Cause what do we do with the things we buy that are pretty? We put them on the wall, or a shelf, nary to think of them again.

Perfection is high over-rated.

It's all the little imperfections that make a person interesting.

Nice poem. (nice shape).. how'd you do that?

Great Poem....I saw not self pitty but self love and pitty (or sadness) for those who "buy into" the shallow end of the pool! You are very gifted. I love real things when they are said "plainly"..

Sorry Elvira,
I never got to comment on this wonderful poem

Besides the poem being very nice, I loved the way you controlled the lines to make that round figure in the middle of the screen. How did you do that? Incidently, I like well-rounded poetry *g*.

Elvira, don't be jealous of the models...when they're 60 or 70 years old...a majority of them won't have ANYTHING! I'd rather be plain in looks and beautiful with personality, spirit, and loving ways, than to be beautiful, vain, and looked at often without others knowing the REAL me. (the ME on the inside!)

Yeah! What Car Girl said! When those 20-year old models are 60 and 70 they won't have anything! Including ME! I'll be way long gone by then!

Have to say I loved this! As for the net, elvira, they just get to see you for who you really are. They get to see the inside first. And that's what counts!
Great job!!!

Elvira, i loved your poem, i am glad some-
one brought it back from July's pile.
you are very talented. Every morning when
you wake up after giving thanks for another
beautiful day. You are going to think
beautiful and you are going to feel beautiful
in the end that's what counts!

A lot of women think men don't look at them, but there are men that are too shy to! They see those beauties slaying men with putdowns and killing looks and become fearful! I've read most of your poetry and think you have a perfection of inner beauty that glows in your work!

Perfection is unattainable, and impossible. Just be who you are, and ppl will like you for you. For this same reason I don't like make-up. Part of what makes a person beautiful is their flaws, but covering those flaws, you cover your beauty... If men can't see beyond physical beauty which is only skin deep, they don't deserve you or any other self-respecting woman.
