Have you forgotten
how good inspiration feels late at night
when your fingers take to gliding
‘ore the keyboard in frantic flight

Have you forgotten
to feed your body, because your poetry feeds your core
have you gone unwashed for days
writing more, writing more

Have you forgotten
he was waiting, Star Wars tickets gripped to his chest
while you sit there in darkness
trying to write your best.

Have you forgotten
why, this special gift was meant to be
why God singled you out
to write so beautifully

Have you forgotten
that you are unpublished, without fortune or fame
that loneliness gives no warmth
from dying embers of a poet’s flame

Have you forgotten
how good inspiration feels late at night
when written words proclaim your soul
and make your poet’s flame ignite

My Inspiration

I feel my Inspiration
As I ponder late at night,
When silent thought lends clarity
Remanding day's long plight.

I lie alone in darkNess
In a pensive state of mind,
And tell myself when morning comes
Of Inspiration's find.

I need not meet within this life
With fortune or with fame,
As long as I can have my fill
Of Inspiration's flame.
