If I had only spoken
As I saw her walk my way
Or gave some kind of token
There were things I had to say..

Perhaps she would have smiled at me
Or stopped to say hello
And felt love burn inside of me
Or seen my face aglow.

If I had only said one word,
Some phrase or clever line
From some past anecdote I'd heard
I knew she would be mine!

But I couldn't even mutter
One small thing, for Heaven's sake!
My throat could only stutter
And my knees would only shake.

And, before I could overcome it,
Before I could beg her stay
My imaginary lover
Calmly turned and walked away.

If I had only spoken...
But I didn't, and the pain
Of lonliness unbroken
Will forevermore remain.

That's really sweet, Balladeer. You have such a haunting air of sadness, but you manage not to sound self-pitying. I really like this!

Embrace the Wave of Serendipity
Lest its elusive arcane ecstasy
Refurl with sail for all eternity...

veey good, so the rumors I "hear" about the great "Balladeer" may very well be true. I would like you to take a look at some of my works, if you please, especially NIGHT MAGIC.
Thank you very much for your thoughts

Balladeer, this one is really special. I suppose there are some personal feelings that your work has stirred inside me. I love your work! ~one voice~

Perhaps it's a good thing you didn't speak! She'd be falling at your feet - lusting after you and your golden tongue. It could be a curse you know...women in the Doctor's office, the checkout girl at the grocery store, the salesgirl in WalMart...they would line up on your street just to be near you!

There...better now?

Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" comes to mind.

It made me think of an old saying:

Love enters a man through his eyes;
A woman through her ears.

Beware what you say or you could be in possession of a harem.

Balladeer, If my memory serves me right there is much more to this one than the brilliant verses printed here...
