Automatic Grammar in Titles |

Is there a way that the system could be programmed to automatically capitalize or lowercase letters that normally should be capital or lowercase in the topic/title field, if they are otherwise, and also remove periods or ellipses? For instance, if I post a poem titled: "SEDUCTION" or "seduction" or "Seduction." or "...Seduction..." it would turn it to "Seduction" when posted? Or "Seduction Of" turn to "Seduction of" Perhaps to allow for people who are very fussy with wanting all capitals or no capitals or elipses etc, this it could be a function that one could disable, if it is possible. I just wanted to see if it was a good idea. [This message has been edited by Essorant (12-20-2002 10:29 AM).] |

I have to admit, I have a personal problem with improper grammar, improper spelling, and improper punctuation... But... I also have to admit that I'd have a much more significant personal problem if I couldn't use my silly ellipses... After all... They give me time to think about how and what I'll say next... Call it "Ellipsis Abuse," if you will, but as an English educator, it's one of those little licenses I take... |

uhm - if you want to have it read "Seduction" then why don't you just type it that way? |

Nan I wasn't saying one shouldn't be able to use ellipses, all captials, all lowercase,or sOmEtHiNg lIkE tHiS but it would promote not using them in the title or topic field by automatically eliminating them if he/she doesn't disable such a function. Christopher- I was just think of people who might forget or don't care, so they just type all capitals or no capitals on a whim. This could correct the grammar automatically, so that the grammar is correct notwithstanding. [This message has been edited by Essorant (12-20-2002 01:24 AM).] |

i wish there was a way that the 'i' would always be capitalized also, but some poets like the lower case. I do see your point about titles...sometimes the all caps titles BLARE their title. It's jarring. |

But what if you want your title to remain uncapitalized? Isn't it just easier to type your title the way you want it? Are we so lazy as humans that we can't simply read two or three wrods over again to see if they are typed correctly?? Or, as I see I have posted with typos, if there is to be a grammar correction, wouldn't it be more practical to have spell check in the actualy fields? Personally, I thnk if you have to be THAT sure, just enter it in MS Word forst and hit the spell/grammar check button. It's not hard to tell that I don't really care that much. I think there's enough editing and adjusting and correcting going on already. Sometimes the little i makes sense for a given poem, even though I prefer the caps 99% of the time. |

and i almost never capitalize anything in a poem. each person has their own way of doing things. personally, i would hate to see something instituted that would encourage people to be even more lazy with the language that already is the case. if you want the grammar or spelling to be correct, make it so. there are more than enough resources out there to ensure it (notice that at the top of each reply page there is a link to http://dictionary.com and "other tools", which lead to links for grammar, rhyming dictionaries, etc. |

wouldn't that be rather pointless? i think they now have these things called shift keys. you hold it down as you type the letter and it shows up as uppercase. wow... /jen/ 'i don't care if it hurts, i want to have control. i want a perfect body, i want a perfect soul.' [radiohead] |
