How about picking a poem by our favorite poet for the April issue of the newsletter? Then include a small paragraph on how reading this person's poetry has influenced your own. How's that? Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

no no....forget acire's b-day on the 16th....the 22nd is where it's at. I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust. I'm in love with my shadow I admire it daily |

To expand upon the other suggestions here.... Since we already have the software in place for votiing on poems - why not have a "Poet/Poem of the Month" contest... Our own members can choose.... The winner to be highlighted in the next newsletter...?? |

Nan, that's a great idea, but I don't know if it is viable..would it take too much of Ron's time? Can we figure another way to do it? This is something we could institute forever..not just for National Poetry Month. If we could figure out an EASY way to vote...I'd be willing to get emails from anyone who wanted to vote on a particular poem. Any more input on this.... |

Nan --- that is a great idea. I'm up for that. It would be nice to categorize the poems as forums also are. No matter what, I'm all for it "So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this give life to thee." W.S. |

I beg to differ. This is not a great idea. One of the reasons I like(d?) this place is that it is not a "CONTEST" site. Can't we be above that? If you want winners and losers, be pleased to go to one of the MANY contest sites. My poetry will is not competitive and I will not allow it to be "contested". If that's where PIP is headed, I'm outa' here . . . Kraw' |

Steady there Kraw!!! This was an idea only... not a done deal. I think if it was done, it would be a voluntary thing - if you wanted something considered, you would submit it..not all the forums would do it. But you have a valid point...we are all equal here and certainly don't want to open a can of ego-worms! Thanks for speaking up! |

Krawdad --- I was thinking more of submitting your poem if you want to join the contest. I wasn't thinking of all the poems being included without permission. Hope this makes it sound better. And it's only a suggestion anyways. "So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this give life to thee." W.S. |

The point is, I would not like to see poetry become competitive on this site, voluntarily or otherwise. My objection stands. |

*peeks in* well.....I'm just not going to express my opinions, but Kraw if you have any ideas about what we can do....then It'd be nice to hear them. I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust. I'm in love with my shadow I admire it daily |

Suggestions: (I like Lone Wolf's idea above, by the way. It has a lot of promise.) Otherwise, consider these: 1) - Find yourself a "student" to introduce to the creative wellspring that poetry can be and mentor that student with your experience. Then bring that effort back to PIP and tell us about it. Introduce that new poet to the rest of us. Or maybe there is someone already here at PIP that you could coach. 2) - Is there a living, publishing poet, with accessable works, that you have learned from or that you emulate? (Lone Wolf's idea writ a bit larger.) Tell us about it. 3) - Is poetry really important in your life? Dare to tell us why. 4) - Give it away!!! Are you confident enough? Are you selfless enough? Post your poetry on a community bulletin board, in a want-ad, in your church bulletin, just someplace on the street. Anonymously!!! (just in April ) Dare ya'. okay, D-D, your turn . . . |

Haha, Krawdad I love number 4, but I don't have the guts "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle" "Life's short. If you don't look around once in a while you might miss it." BothUnknown |

I agree with Krawdad on the point that a contest is not a good idea. Poetry cannot be better or worse than its fellows, only different. It is far too vast a world in order to say that one could possibly be better than the rest, so we should not put ourselves into competition. And the coaching a poet idea? Outstanding. I have a friend who I am introducing to poetry lately. Perhaps I shall ask her to step into the Teen #4 forum for a spell? That might be quite fun. I think we should all take a bit of time to see if there is anyone we can introduce to poetry, who seems like they may be interested. Just my two cents. And Lake? I double-dare you. ~Allan Stupidity makes the world go around...and people like us laugh. ~~Elizabeth, to Allan |

Krawdads number 4 I'm up for it But I also like nan's idea. Don't ever give in, if you do you've lost everything you've ever had and everything you hope to gain, but if you carry on your already winning. [This message has been edited by Moon Dust (edited 03-08-2001).] |

Allan, stop, don't make me actually consider doing this "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle" "Life's short. If you don't look around once in a while you might miss it." BothUnknown [This message has been edited by Lakewalker (edited 03-08-2001).] |
