Grandmother’s Silent Prayers

I had not thought of it before my children left
that I would ever feel so helpless, bereft,
as when it comes to my grandchildren’s care,
or that I would have so much love to spare.

In this lonesome darkness ‘tis an angel’s light I see
that only continuing prayer may then comfort me.
So in my weary, foggy mind, a trilogy thus unwinds;
pray these words will continue through my history.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Babies rest, Grandmother’s here
Pray know best Grandmother’s cheer.
Babies rest, Grandfather’s love
Keeping you safe in wisdom and love.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

So a prayer for my granddaughter, seven now,
that she learn to love true, regardless of how
by her mother abandoned, she shall feel my arms.
Let prayers surround her, like golden charms.

So a prayer for my grandson, 'tho just two
let him know he’s good in the things that he’ll do;
let grandpa guide him, and I’ll do my turn
so that he will listen, and want to learn.

So a prayer to my grandson, just yet unborn
Please God, let him come to no harm.
Let this child survive the coming winter’s storm
and in all arms, let this child be loved and warm.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Babies rest, Grandmother’s here
Pray know best Grandmother’s cheer.
Babies rest, Grandfather’s love
Keeping you safe in wisdom and love.

Hoot, thank you.

LJA, it would seem that for all of the practice that parents do, we should see a reward at the end. Grandchildren most often are that precious commodity.
