So now I sit here in my study
On this bright September morning,
A scene so tranquil one forget
The weather center and its warning.

My house is, thank God, well-constructed,
My preparations thorough, too.
I feel no major threat impending
As Mr. Floyd comes passing through.

Not true of many other people
Who are less fortunate than I.
My thoughts and prayers go out to them.
May this storm also pass them by.

The homeless people live in boxes.
Miami streets they call their home.
No fancy relatives to help them
And they are out there all alone.

The shelters do what they are able
But they will fill up all too fast.
The stench will be quite overpowering.
The food and water will not last.

Some of them can not use the shelters.
Their crimes will not let them appear.
God has become their judge and jury
And now their day in court is here.

The elderly along the beaches
Sit there alone and scared to death.
They have outlived all who could help them
They sit in fear with baited breath.

Hospital patients lay in small rooms,
Machines to help them stay alive,
Watch raging winds from out the window
And wonder if they will survive.

Of all the people that I think of
As rambling thoughts run through my mind,
The ones that really strike me deeply
Are the poor souls that are blind.

No way can I ever imagine
What those poor folks are going through.
The terror they must overcome is
Something I could never do.

So now the storm is fast approaching
As our sweet Mother pays a call.
If there were one thing I could wish for,
I'd wish that I could help them all.

Tearfully wonderful! We are praying for everyone in Floyd's path, but our Passion's Poets most of all!

Revered Elder,
No need to comment on your rhyme and meter. The content now is a different story. I've been tracking the storms, yes plural, by live satellite feeds and live camera footage in Tampa and Miami plus a few other resources. I pray that as many people survive as possible.

Balladeer this was wonderful! So often we don't think of those things or those people. Thanks for the reminder. Never really thought about the blind in a storm. That has to be terrifying as their hearing is so keen, one could only try to imagine what it would sound like. May God watch over everyone.

One of your most heartfelt pieces, I believe....bless you Balladeer, and hang on to a fruit tree or something! I could never imagine having to sit through one of those things....trying to hang on to all my "stuff"....wow. You've certainly given us new eyes in which to see the devastation....thank you sir. *** Throwing kisses, as I feel you don't need any more wind right now! as in "blowing".....(wink)

Thanks for your wonderful thoughts. Sharon, I forgot your daughter is in Gainesville! Please send her my best wishes. Yes, DreamEvil, plural it is. Thanks for your words. PFF, I'm not hanging on to any fruit tree. Toerag might have been there! To the rest of you, thanks again. Gee, Nan, you still around?

Oh, Balladeer..... sniff...sniff... excuse me. Blowing nose, wiping eyes! You, old softy, you. Always thinking of others. Just open your umbrella and catch a ride on the first big gust of wind that comes by! Don't be too brave and try to swim out! Thinking of you here in N.C.

Balladeer, once again, this is such a wonderful tribute. I've been worried about many people in Florida, hoping they'll be alright. I hope you keep yourself safe as well. God Bless and Take Care!

This should go back to the top, with thanks to Balladeer for a heartfelt poem reminding us of those without shelter in a storm...and to say I am so glad to hear that our poets in South Florida appear to be out of the High Wrath of Floyd at this time
I'll be thinking of those who still face the uncertainty of the path this storm will take.

Another poem, please, Sir, to chase old Gert away!

While Balladeer sits and waits tonight for a visit from Floyd, we should also begin to think and pray for those in northern Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina! A devastating hurricane can cause inland tornados and torrential flooding rain! I've seen a report that shows the whole East coast eventuall affected unless Floyd moves east out to sea (that's not likely). So watch your news, pray and donate what you can to the Red Cross...these people are going to need our support!

NOTE: I'll start a posting in the "Feelings Forum" to keep track of our poets. If you are in the path of the storm, please let us know when you're ok. We'll keep that thread open until Floyd has left.
