Read the ledger. There’s no doubt I’d do better Checking out. No one’s mother, No one’s wife, No one’s lover, Empty life. Marking time, Passing through. Doesn’t matter What I do. |

Nicely written and cleverly worded poem Suthern. The best poetry contains few words yet has a profound meaning, this poem for me falls into that category. ------------------ Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool: But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet. |

Love the poem - don't agree with the sentiment, it always matters what you do. You don't have to be related to someone to have an identity. |

One of the great intangibles in life is what we do for others and what our lives mean to others, all of this happening without us even being aware of it. I'm sure your life touches and adds to many people's in a very positive way. There's a reason for all of us to be here...that's why we're here. |

I relate only too well to this one...and the brevity of it emphasizes what you say. Good piece. ------------------ The only man worth your tears will never make you cry... |

Very nicely written Suthern! But I don't agree with the sentiment. Every person is an end onto themself. What you do should be of paramount importance to YOU. To give happiness is to FEEL happiness. Angel |

Very good Suthern! So much message with so few words! Although I echo the above that we all matter! (But you know that!) ------------------ Denise |

For The Beauty and the Friend One can only imagine Rewards this lady brings Safe within a heart so true Underneath she's just like us The doubts and fears, lack of trust Her smile I see before me Endless times of giving Reaching out with all she has Never doubt this love for you! Beauty true is held skin deep Even when we sleep Loving and giving Loyalty and listening Eternal friend, just had to say why I love you! HUSG Glad to see you smiling.. ------------------ You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. well as always, better late than never, great writing! a mother? a wife? if that were all there were to life, the how do you explain me?(grin) but that is not all there is to life God uses you my friend, in different ways. If friends were riches you would be up there with the wealthy (beaming big smiles at you my friend) you matter my friend! |

Yeah, Belle - and don't forget - where would the blondes of the world be without their spokesperson?! Now - on to more technical aspects of your poem.... Upon reading the ledger did you not see, All the things you've been to me? Did you not see written there, The times you've been so quick to care? Did you not see in bright detail, Your caring, which has never failed? Upon its reading do you not recall, The many times you've given your all? Do you now think you may presume, That we don't think you hung the moon? You've shortchanged yourself if that's so, Your wit and wisdom have helped us grow. Though neither our mother nor our wife, You touch us all with your life. You say you've not riches to share? You enrich us all by being here. No. Belle. You're more than you admit, You're a fine person and a good friend. Just look in the column that says, "Credits," You're in the black as you've always been. Belle - hang in there sweet lady. This will pass, and we all love ya. [This message has been edited by LngJhnAg (edited 09-13-99).] |

LJA: You skeered me there. *G* When you said on to more technical aspects of the poem, I just knew I was SOL... Me? What technical aspects? *G* (I do capitalize correctly... other than that... hunh? LOL.) Great poem, dear friend... thanks! [This message has been edited by suthern (edited 09-13-99).] |

Belle Though you may have villified me in the past (just to support that rascally scalawag), I've always read "friend" in the things you write. Have you thought about eating chocolate lately? I hear things look better after a Hershey's Almond Bar - lol. |

Hey, I like this one! In fact, I'd like to see it go on for about three more stanzas! |

Suthern, I hope your out of the pit soon! I ditto LJA's poem there for you! You are worth more to us than words can say. You reach out and touch all of us with your words! You are more than you admit! Here's to happier days! I hope they come soon for you!!!! |

You still come out way in the black in any audit. I love your poem, Ruth, and I love Long John's response to it. He nailed how I feel about you. xoxoxo Alison |
