He drove to work the other day due to a detour he didn't go the usual way. As he traveled it came by surprise the little house on the corner that stood before his eyes. An image out of Better Home and Garden Magazine with it's white washed fence and toys in the yard, it made the perfect scene. As he sat at the unusually long light an image appeared before his sight of two young children playing in the yard then the realization hit him hard. This is a place he had seen before. A pain developed in his chest that he couldnt ignore, for the house had once been the place he called home. That was long before the bottle made him roam, and his dreams he had worked so hard to build had become the very thing he killed. It had been years since this was part of his life - his two little kids and his wife. Everything seemed easier then, but due to the bottle he had alienated his wife and his friends. Each day things grew worse and it all eventualy ended in divorce, which only led to his drinking harder and he all but forgot his son and his daughter. Years passed by and in time his wife married some other guy. Deeper and deeper into the bottle he slid, from life and his troubles he hid, barely making it day to day. he drifted along in the usual way. Life since then had had no meaning, and as he gazed, in his ears he heard a ringing. The horn of a car came from behind, shook the cob webs from his mind. And as he went off on his way he relived the feeling of that awful day, when the door slamed on his life and he last saw his children and his wife. A question came to his mind and suddenly it all seemed like a crime. The question resounded in his head and to a painful realization it led: Why had he done what he did? Just then... from under the seat a beer bottle slid! |

Makes you think! And when a poem touches someone like that, it's a good one! |

Since recently discovering my passion for poetry, I have found great joy and pride in being able to write down my thoughts in words that may cause one to think or laugh or cry, and the idea that others who enjoy poetry may find my work worthy of such compliments realy makes me feel good. thanks! |
