Early morning walk in the last moonlight
Beneath the shadowed trees still covered by the night
Spending sleepless hours and restlessness
With spinning thoughts in great distress

There is no soothing balm for ache
Neither calming pills to take
These musings are never bypassed
By amber liquids in a shot glass

Peaceful dreams just will not come
And like the beating of a drum
The heart begins to race
Nightmares wear an ugly face

Disturbing visions come to call
As soon as sleep begins to fall
And screams burn in the throat
Escape has lost the last of hope

Horror cannot be dismissed
Being dragged toward the abyss
Thrown downward into hell
Where easy slumbers fell

Terror beckons, run and hide
Kick sheets and blankets all aside
Gentle will not go the night
Blessed sleep has taken flight

A little too much caffine today, Caroline?

Enjoyed the read. I can relate to this
kind of night of tossing and turning.

Today a man discovered gold and fame,
Another flew the stormy seas;
Another set an unarmed world aflame,
One found the germ of a disease.
But what high fates my path attend;
For I-today-I found a friend.

This is well done indeed, caroline! Very descriptive. I could see the moonlit walk and the toss'n'turnin'! And I could feel the aggravation! Very good one!

Caroline, you make this sound so real I would almost think you have experienced nights like this.

*LOL* Julie! No such thing as too much caffiene for me! I am plagued by nightmares at times, and rather than go back to sleep, a walk is a better thing. It isn't too safe to walk alone in the dark anymore, so sometimes I just haunt the house.

Dove and Denise...thanks! And sweet dreams!

Sir Balladeer...I've experienced so many of these nights that I no longer need luggage to travel. I can pack the bags under my eyes! *LOL*

Caroline, keep safe through the storm, you and yours. (This had to come back up to the top anyway!)
