early in the morning
nestled in it's hidden alcove
the beast lays waiting for it's riders
as it whines it's last moments of sleep
soon it will be ready,
as the handlers go over the final preparations
of it's early premorning flight
as it takes it's precious rider to the meeting of poets
it's rider, tired and hungry
runs over last minute details
things that should have been learned long ago
yet he has procrastinated once more
and as the graceful bird of flight spreads it's wings
his whine becomes a roar of volumous energy
as he forcefully leaves the ground in a surging leap of faith
headed to the meeting of friends among the written word
it's rider, though tired and axious, soon loses himself amongst the passing scenery
as trees and lights pass beneath
like a swarm of fireflies before an approaching midnight storm
the lights of city streets and buildings pulsate like a breathing entity
an entity of energy
a being of electrons
one whose life can be killed by a simple switch
and this entity,
a being whose life hangs on an razor sharp edge
is bound to us like a child to an abusive father
he can niether kill us nor save us
as we destroy ourselves with our minds
a tape to erase and rerecord
we race around like ants on our highways and biways
with fiberglass protection against our own species innequitties
and as the rider watches all
the voices inside speak and listen
both decrying and championing the same unilateral cause
as the world slips away under him

Well, if you had gotten some sleep the night before and not procrastinated so much - hassled poor defenseless little old ladies on the plane - and not gotten lost in the airport..........You might not have been so tired and hungry - But don't worry - We'll feed you by Sunday when you go back home.

Desperado, you better come to your senses! It's hard to play a serious game of scrabble with a NUT like you!!!

Seriously, I was the slouch, you were a great partner... see you in a few minutes and we can do it all over again....
