To Have Never Loved

‘Tis better to have loved and lost they say
Than never to have known true love at all
But I, who’ve watched love quickly slip away
Would rather not have taken that cruel fall
Over many a lost love have tears I cried
But those be mild and oh so few
Compared to when, my love, you died
Taking my heart to the grave with you
So now, I live buried inside my pain
Memories of you forever on my mind
True love will never I feel again
My heart is gone, this shell is left behind
~And to the grave my voice will surely call
~‘Tis far better to have never loved at all

Hey, Hoot - Here I am..... just busy gettin off to Washington DC - I expect to see you there....
This is a great poem - nice message.....
Your rhyme scheme is intact for a Shakespearean Sonnet - a-b-a-b/c-d-c-d/e-f-e-f/gg
You start out with your iambic pentameter intact and lose it a bit about halfway through - Just a nip here and a tuck there, and will be perfect......

All I can say is ... amen. Been there, done that.

A very good piece of work.

I am so glad Nan gave you a critique's approval.Naniess,if thou say its a sonnet, then a sonnet it shalt be...

I was just gonna say, sonnet or not, it was a beautiful piece anyway..(excuse my poetic illetracy..hehe)
